Matthew LeRiche is in the Department of Internation Development (ID) at LSE and has been working in South Sudan and the region, including Kenya, Central African Republic, and the DRC for approximately 8 years. His doctorate studied the then rebel Sudanese People’s Liberation Army/Movement and how international humanitarian action impacted the conduct of the civil war.

He is formerly a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and a graduate of the Department of War Studies, King’s College London (PhD and Masters), as well as Memorial University of Newfoundland (BA). He is from the island of Newfoundland in Canada on the edge of North America.

Matthew also founded and runs EpicDemic Productions a film and media company focused on documentary work and public relations advice. His first major film South Sudan: The World’s Youngest Nation is currently in production.

He is currently a Fellow in Managing Humanitarianism at the London School of Economics and Political Science, along with an Adviser to various other firms, governments and projects on South Sudan and risk in Africa. His most recent publication, South Sudan: from revolution to independence (London: Hurst, 2012) will be released in March 2012.
