This event is organised by Jo Sadgrove, Alex Beresford and Chris Paterson.

Dr Joanna Sadgrove is a Research Fellow in the School of Geography, University of Leeds. Jo's research interests focus is on religion and sexuality with a particular interest in Africa (Uganda, South Africa). Working across the disciplines of anthropology, religious studies and geography her African research has focused on sexuality and religious identities in relation to HIV prevention and homosexuality.

Dr Alex Beresford is a newly appointed to Lecturer in Development Studies in the School of Politics and International Studies, University of Leeds. Alex completed his Ph.D. at the Centre of African Studies, Edinburgh University. His Ph.D. provides a detailed ethnographic focus into class and nationalist politics in contemporary South Africa ‘from below’, with a focus on the political attitudes and activism of members of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM).

Dr Chris Paterson is a Senior Lecturer for Broadcast Journalism.  Chris teaches and researches in the areas of international communications and journalism. His research primarily concerns the production and flow of international news; the safety of journalists; and media in Africa.
